Introducing our new Rangers!
We’re delighted to welcome two new Engagement Officers to Bird Wise East Kent. Just in time as we enter the winter season and migratory birds continue to arrive back on our shores!
Ranger Greg and Ranger Alice will be out and about on the coast path, running events, going into schools and working to improve awareness of the amazing birds that spend the winter here. Part of this will be twice weekly walk-and-talks at our main sights on the East Kent coast. Keep an eye on our social media pages and sign up to our newsletter for updates on any upcoming events.
Look out for them on the coast, they’d love to have a chat if you spot them. Here’s a little bit of info about our new team members 🙂
Ranger Greg:

Being a local lad I have a passion for the coast but also wildlife/bird species. I can often be found walking my dog Holly around the Thanet coast. Before joining Birdwise East Kent I was a Ranger on the Hoo Peninsula educating and running nature activities for the public. I have also been volunteering with the Thanet Coast project for close to 8 years as a coastal warden and media officer. I studied Natural History at University and was able to travel around the world to study wildlife in their natural habitat from Iceland, Botswana, Gibraltar/ Spain. I am a photographer and filmmaker so looking forward to using my skills to show to people the beauty of the coast and wildlife. Also, I am looking forward to getting out along the coast engaging with people and sharing my passion plus my knowledge.
Ranger Alice:

I have always loved being by the coast and everything that comes with it, especially the wildlife. I’m new to Thanet but grew up on the Dorset coast and am excited to bring my passions to this new place and role. I’ve recently finished a masters in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law, so am looking forward to putting into practice some of what I’ve learnt. Outside of this, I have spent time doing voluntary education work with the RSPB and Compassion in World Farming, helping to create and deliver educational programmes to get kids passionate about nature and animals! I’ve also worked in engagement roles with community organisations in Bristol, aiming to achieve sustainability goals.
